(7) Use Neutral and Pastel Paint Colors

The lighter your walls are, the bigger your interiors will feel and look. While dark paint colors can make a room look cozy, they can also make it appear much smaller. Light colors reflect and increase light, while dark ones absorb it. You can use a dark color on an accent wall, but try to reserve dark hues for rooms with plenty of natural light. However, this doesn’t mean you settle for boring neutrals and pastels. You can paint your kitchen a buttery color instead of sunshine yellow. Choose light shades for every part of your home – from the floor to the ceiling. You can install light oak flooring, paint the walls cream or peach, and the ceiling white. If you can’t redo your flooring, use a light colored rug to visually enlarge your home.
